As much as I love the wingback chair, I may have a deeper love for the chaise lounge. The styles of this piece of furniture are so varied. There have been very modern works, such as the Mies chaise, as well as, Victorian button-tufted works in lush velvets. I would, of course, like to have a few of each. In the meantime, I found a few examples of beautiful, inspiring designs to share with all of you.
Upon doing some research on the history of the chaise lounge, I found this piece of furniture’s history to be as eclectic as the many styles we see here. The history dates back to France, Africa, Greece, Mexico…starting in Egypt. The lounge is a merger of the day bed and the chair. The chaise has been long used for people of importance and to depict wealth. Such as the lounging beauties we see in the Rococo Period art works.
Whoa! Some of those chaise lounges are amazing!
