Mixing colors, patterns, and textures in design

How many of you are afraid to mix colors, patterns, and textures for fear of either your room just looking like you had no idea what you were doing or due to the fact that you really do not know what you are doing when it comes to design? I can understand this concern. I am actually asked on a weekly basis what the rules are for using colors, patterns, and textures in interior design. Many people want to know if they can mix say a paisley with a stripe, along with a small geometric. I say, as long as there is a good design plan and these items are representing your own personal style, then there are no other “rules” which need to be followed. This is not to say that everyone should mix and match anything under the sun. If you are in doubt, it never hurts to enlist the help of a trained professional to make everything make sense and flow seamlessly. As an interior designer, I have to say that I love these challenges.

Below are some inspiring examples of mixing colors, patterns, and textures. Enjoy and feel free to share some pictures of your own!
